Snippet

Hi!! It’s been a long time since the last post. There are a lot of things to share and of course about the result of first cut!

Surely, you are wondering about the result, right? Hahah.. Before I tell you who’s going to final, I want you to know that Microsoft B is a tough opponent. I think they are a perfectionist team and they were doing research very well. Their number is very strong. And for my team, we put a lot of creativity into our campaign, start from the slide until the supporting media. Generally, we are equal. It must be very difficult to decide.

However, there will be only one team go to the final. So, without wasting your time… the winner is… *drum roll* Microsoft Team A!!

Yeaah!! We made it to the final! *threw confetti* Hahah.. I was so happy. I never imagined that it would be happened. It was awesome and very grateful for this! All of us were very grateful. May be if we were on the same room, I’m sure we would rock the floor! Hahah.. Yipiie!!

We, Videos, and Photos

Although, we were won in first cut, it didn’t mean there was nothing to do anymore. We still had critics and inputs to be processed. It’s difficult for us because we have to change “the heart of our campaign”. We still had to think about the idea and how to make it interesting. In very close time to final, it made us panic. All of us were thinking harder, tried to reach something amazing. However, the ideas still sounded ordinary. Then my team decided to do what we can do first. So, we were going to make videos for the final.

September 8, 2012, we were gathered at McD Sarinah. The agenda were finding the concept of video, taking some scene, and collecting the idea. The concept of the videos arranged easily, but the idea for campaign is far than easy. So, we didn’t get a significant progress about the campaign.

The most enjoyable (and tiring) part would come very soon after the videos concept fixed. We started taking pictures and record a few scenes. We went to many spots such as, Djakarta Theatre, Ratu Plaza, and Grand Indonesia. This activity would be very interesting for those who want to be actor/actress. You could be a little narsis and capture yourself from every angle. However, I saw something different today that being an actor/actress is not very easy. Sometimes, you had to being someone else and deal with heat of the sun.

Our capturing activity has been so fun because there were always funny act and pictures there. Unfortunately, we couldn’t keep them all because we had a limited memory and battery. So, we had to end that session and we planned to continue it next day (September 9, 2012).

For Mentors and Patrons

We choose Starbucks FX as a convenience place to make our video for patrons and mentors. There were only a few things left to do and it didn’t take a long time. That day brought us back remembering our patrons and mentors, people who have contributed to our team. As I remember them, I feel that we were nothing without them. All their times and supports have brought us to final and I think a word ‘thank you’ will never enough to represent how grateful we are to have people like them.

However, as my last word, I'll keep to say thank you to Mas Resha, Mas Sandro, Mas Yustinus, Mbak Lisa, Mr. Bernard, Mr. Manish, Pak Dimin, Mas Suhe, Mas Dolly, and Mas Ario. Applause and praise for all of you!! J

Wednesday, September 5th 2012. The day that we will remember forever as a mark of our journey. We finally reached this stage: Final Presentation for our project!
After long process of making our Anti-Piracy campaign plan, here’s the next step, present it in front of judges from Microsoft: Manish and Bernard. They will decide which team will pass the First Cut and represent Microsoft at Grand Final of SfE Challenge. Gasp!
TWO HOURS LEFT BEFORE...
We planned to meet up at 11.00 AM, for preparing all needed in presentation. For the dresscode, Batik is the choice because it’s related with our campaign main idea, Value of Creativity.
One by one, we finally gathered at Coffee Tofee in IDX. Tried to calm ourself, yeah this is the first time we meet Manish and Bernard, directors of Microsoft! Such a big honor to get this opportunity, yet we tried to prepare our best to impress them.
You must look at each of our face! Widy, the team leader, still calm but we know he tried to make the rest feel relaxed. Evita, busy with fixed the presentation slides. Yos and Ester were practicing the presentation together. Stevani, made sure that our website sample was worked well. Everyone was excited but terrified at same time!
So, ready guys? Microsoft-A team will rock the game!
TIK TOK TIK TOK... SHOWTIME!
And the show begins. Came into Microsoft office at 18th floor, and such a coincidence! Microsoft-B team, our friend and opponent arrived at same time with us, and wearing Batik, same dresscode but of course we didn’t plan it before hohoho J J
Mas Sandro then met us and accompanied to the Azzure meeting room. Actually, this is first time we look at whole inside of Microsoft office, which only employees can enter the room. Happy! Like we are truly working at Microsoft, wohooo!
After waited for some minutes in Azzure, the judges finally arrived. Manish and Bernard greet us and we can see how inspiring they are, just look at their face. They give team B first turn to present their project. It’s about getting awareness for Office 365, newest software from Microsoft.
WOW. If only you can see them in the room, you will agree about how marvelous their presentation is. They prepare everything, including complete research related. Compared to us, we actually nothing, that’s what we think during presentation. How great their presentation skill and especially when delivering their ideas in English. Followed by Q&A session with judges, which means near the time for our turn!

Finally, it’s ours! Pray and pray and confidence with ourself, that’s advice from all of our mentors and patrons. Widy, Ester, Yos, Evita, Stevani , one by one got turn alternately in presenting as we planned together before.
We were grateful that everything has run smoothly. Bernard and Manish give us some questions and feedbacks for our Anti-Piracy campaign. Yeah, we realized that we still need improvement and some weakness left here and there at our ideas. But still, we feel such lucky people because we got a chance to present our ideas in front of them, no matter what, we all still university students, right? You must get the point, hahaha.

Unfortunately, Bernard and Manish must left first because they have appointments waiting. Of course, we have photo session together with them and team-B too! We sure have fun together.

After all finished, we must waiting for tomorrow about the announcement from British Council. Who’s the winner and got a chance to the Grand Final.
WHAT WE LEARN FROM TODAY?
Winning is other thing, but we glad we give out all we have. Leave out all the rest to God, at least we have tried our best. That’s the important lesson.
Met with awesome people from Microsoft, Mas Sandro, Mas Resha (our mentor), people from Anti-Piracy division that always supported us (Mas Yustinus, Mbak Lisa, Pak Sudimin), sharing with them and inspired with their way of thinking and solving problem. Also, all patrons (Mas Suhe, Mas Dolly, Mas Ario). We learn A LOT from these great people. How humble they are and willingly to teach us everything even they are busy with each business. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
Also, awesome friends from Microsoft-B team! Such a pleasure to meet all of you guys! Well, game is another thing but important one is, our relationship we’ve got. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
These valuable lessons and moments, we surely remember forever.
Thanks, MICROSOFT INDONESIA!

September 3, 2012

That day, we were going to meet Mas Yustinus and Mbak Lisa. First, the schedule hadn’t fixed, but then they had time on 4.30 pm.

We came with a few concepts for the presentation. We did some practice and then Mbak Lisa and Mas Yustinus gave suggestion and critic. They had shared many tips and how to make the presentation more attractive. I found that some of the tips are difficult to me. In a short time period like this, I just can only make it as good as I can. Hopefully, we can reach our maximal performance.

Moreover, Mas Yustinus shared his experience when he had to present for the first time and told us how he deal with it. You know, the stories was so funny, I laughed many times because of it. It made the meeting not very serious but still meaningful. That’s what I like there. All of this experience makes me so grateful. I learn a lot.

This meeting was done around 7 pm. It’s been late for me. So, we had to hurry and said ‘bye-bye’ with each other.

As my last word, thank you, thank you very much for British Council and Microsoft!!

September 2, 2012

Sunday Morning. It is a perfect day to do some exercise or maybe get prepare to go somewhere interesting, hang out with friends, gather with your family, or just stay on your bed all the day. Or if you are a kind of diligent person (or the lazy one), you can do some of your assignment. Essentially, it is out of your routine. Just enjoy your day and get refreshed!! :p

And how do we spend our weekend?

We choose to hang out. This time FX becomes our destination. The traffic is smooth. I get there half hour faster than my prediction. So, I arrive very early and luckily my friends come not very long from me. Then, we choose Starbucks and start enjoying a cup of coffee. It is a good choice to make you stay awake and work as well.

We analyze and try to make some improvement after our meeting with Pak Sudimin. We collaborate and try to solve every weakness we have.

The time is running so fast that we don’t realize we’ve been sitting there for about 4 hours. It’s time to have our lately lunch. However, it doesn’t mean our meeting is finish. We continue a little after lunch, before we go home.

I hope after all the hard work we did, we can win this competition. But more importantly, we learn a lot from this competition. That’s what we are looking for because we can’t buy the experience, right? Ok, that’s all from me. See you and good luck!! J

Hi!! Maybe it’s been a long time you don’t hear any update from us. Actually, there are so many things we have to do. So, I don’t have enough time to post this. I’m very sorry about the delay and I hope you enjoy our new update. Ok, now let’s start with August 30, 2012.

That was Thursday evening. We gathered on Microsoft Indonesia Office, our lovely place to meet amazing people. I was thinking that day would be our usual weekly meeting but my opinion was wrong as I heard what Mas Yustinus (he and Mbak Lisa are our mentor since Mas Resha moved) asked something to the receptionist. We were going to present in front of The Director of Genuine Software Initiative, Sudimin Mina.

Surprised and nervous. Yeah, we were going to present without any preparation. However, we were happy that finally we could meet him. He is very busy so it’s an honor for us that he gave his valuable time with us. Surely, we don’t want to disappoint him.

The meeting was begun. And based on what I see, he was challenging us (the kind of person that I never thinking before). He asked all of us to present in English. That was good idea for our preparation (it shows us his awareness). However, I found that it’s a little difficult to stay calm. What inside my head are he has a great position and I can’t speak English very fluently. I was afraid that I disappoint him.

He appreciated what we’ve been presented and he motivated us. Moreover, he gave his tips how to present in English and dared us to present creatively. After about 3 hours of meeting, we note a few points that we have to think again. And we didn’t forget also for taking pictures.

That day I got a lot of lesson. There are still a lot of amazing people out there. So, what all of us have to do are keep learning and never give up.

Ok. Deeply thanking for Pak Dimin and wishing you every success.

Widyantoko Utomo

My name is Widyantoko Utomo, I’m a student in BINUS University, Jakarta, majoring in Industrial Engineering and Management Study. I’m on my 6th semester when I started my experience in British Council Skill For Employability Challenge. I would say that I’m lucky to be able to experience this unique program created by British Council in collaboration with Impact Factory that offers great experience and opportunity for us to understand how it’s like to be in an actual environment of a workingplace that we might possibly going to face as we graduate from university.

The participant of this program are actually limited to 40 chosen people divided in 8 groups that will get the chance to meet and being mentored by professional practitioners from across sectors to work on a project given by 5 well-known companies in Indonesia.

As each of group are assigned to a different company and working on different project, I’m sure that the experience discovered will be vary and unique. I’m personally assigned to work with Microsoft as my team’s incubator company and chosen to lead my team to handle the issue of Anti-Piracy Campaign. During the journey of us figuring out the campaign idea we have learned about a lot of things, we learn about how to properly do brainstorming, we learn about how to create a marketing campaign, how to initiate a movement, learn about the field facts of piracy act in Indonesia, and a lot of other things. We also met and connected to new people, from the people working and helping us in the company we are being placed, expertise and practitioners that are willing to assist us during our challenge assignment here, also practitioners we met outside this program as well. Those experience has helped us gained insight and ideas to learn about problem solving, and provide a solution to our environment.

There are things that are happened according to how we expect it would be and there are things that happen contrary to that and it teach us to be tougher in facing problems and improve our problem solving skill. It has been a great journey this whole project was, it has equipped us to be more prepared in facing the real working environment and for that I am really thanking the British Council and Impact Factory and to all patrons mas Ricky Suhendar, mas Dolly Lesmana, mas Ario Pratomo, Rene Suhardono, mbak Miki Kitthika, and to people that are really kind to help us mas Handoko Hendroyono from Brand Gardener, mas Resha Adi Pradipta and mas Ridzky Novasandro from Microsoft Indonesia, and mas Ardantya Syahreza for the insights and assistance, deeply appreciate and thanking you all great peoplethat are involved in all the learning my team and I got during this assignment.

August 27, 2012

Hi!! What’s up? It is a good day, right? The traffic is still smooth and I think it is a great time to take a trip. I’m wondering where you would go now. Hmm.. School, office, or maybe some people are still enjoying their free day, a mall or museum? Yeah, wherever you go, just grateful for the traffic because it happens rarely. It’s a perfect time to enjoy Jekardah, isn’t it?

How about us?

Yup! We don’t want to miss this lucky day too. We are going to take a trip to… our meeting point (sounds boring. But believes me, we have a lot of fun). We arranged meeting at 2 pm on BEI library.

However it’s not a very serious meeting. We start to share stories, some full information, some funny, some silly, and some inspirable. I really enjoy my time with my team. Our progress has been going fast. Hmm.. It’s like the traffic today! Smooth!! Sometimes we have red light that we have to stop and think. Then it turns into yellow, the solution is getting showed up. And ended with green light, the problem is solved. We don’t have any traffic jam which means we don’t have any problem without solution. Everything flows fluently. I’m very proud being a part of my team. We are productive but relaxed, competitive but fair, discipline but caring. Bravo Microsoft A team!!

And.. this is the end of our great day. Wishing you every success and have a nice day!

August 14, 2012

Our hero today is Ricky Suhendar, an incredible marketing man! Heheh.. Actually, meeting with him is a challenge for us because he proposes meeting on 6.30 pm (it is too late for me).  However, with all the spirit we have, we agree and come enthusiastically.

As usual, there is always chitchat and laughter in every meeting. It is filling our time until Mas Suhe show up. And apparently, we are not the only team who were going to consult with Mas Suhe. There is Body Shop team too. So, they have their turn after us.

Then, the consultation session is begin. We tell everything about our project. He listens to our explanation and sometimes asks something critically. He also gives insight for our ROI with his humorous style of speaking and his associate words. Finish with us, he continues his consultation session with Body Shop team.

After several times..

We close the meeting by our good-bye-ritual, taking pictures. Ah, oh yes!! I remember something about Mas Suhe! He likes to be photographed!! It’s a surprise but more surprisingly, he says that he could be a little “alay”!! (hahah.. *laughing out loud*) You know when he said that, I imagine that he would poses with one of "alay" style. Hahaha.. But, thanks God, he is normal. Here is the picture :D

Ok, that’s all from me. Thank you, Mas Suhe, see you and good luck!

What's the first thing that pop up into your mind when you see this post title?
Kathy Beth Terry's videoclip with her nerdy look? Aha.

Might be true, but we're not talking about it for now. What we want to share you is....
*drumroll please*

Our LAST PRESENTATION WITH MICROSOFT ANTI-PIRACY DIVISION!
(which happened at last Friday night, August 10th 2012!)

After all our hard work, since brainstorming, then ideas rejected, got frustated, until found new suitable concept for Microsoft anti-piracy campaign, we finally arrived at one of last step, that is: present our ideas to directors of Microsoft Anti-Piracy Division.

We prepare so much for this presentation, because none of us want to disappoint the Division and regret each other for every mistakes we might made. Eventhough lack of sleep because we made presentation slides until midnight, no one is complaining. We even prepare a flash video to make our ideas more visual. Tired, of course. We just hope, all of our efforts will impress the team at next day.

And when the day has come, just imagine how afraid yet excited we are!
Together, five of us went to Microsoft office at almost 4 o'clock. Mas Resha, our mentor greet us and told that we will use other Microsoft meeting room. More important is, we finally can see who are people behind Microsoft's Anti-Piracy Division! The campaign itself, we call it "Lindungi Kreativitasmu!". Sounds cool, eh?

What amaze us, are facts about piracy itself that we got from them. We don't know before that a mall in Jogja, declares that it will sell only genuine things! No one who use piracy things can enter the mall. Wow. And many more facts!

Took around one hour for us to present and discuss together about our ideas with the division. After some feedbacks and successfully finished it, we grateful that the division like our ideas. Thanks God! Everything has been paid-off! We feel like we've just lifted a rock mountain, actually. Hahaha.

To end this wonderful Friday, we have a breakfasting session together at Pacific Place. Still in euforia, and don't want this day will over.

Here's our photo with the Microsoft Anti-Piracy Divison team:

"Say eight for Windows 8!"
We nailed it, guys!! Congratulations for all of us, Microsoft-A team!

Today we have discussion on Plaza Semanggi. We are going to make presentation slide for Friday meeting. Before we meet, each of us has made presentation slide. We just need to combine it. Everyone has great design. However, each slide has their positive and negative side. So, we choose one is better than other. We do fix and match, then arrange the order.

The presentation slide is a little difficult for me because I have to follow the Microsoft’s guideline. I can’t take a picture and put it where ever I want. It has rules and it takes more time than usual. However, the result is wonderful. It is simple and elegant. The result is better working together than working alone.

Ok, that’s all from me. See you until the next post :D

August 3, 2012. It was Friday!! Then, it was time for weekly meeting with Mas Rhesa. We came with more orderly concept. He only suggested about the powerpoint content. He also explained how to make presentation slide with Microsoft’s style. It was important because next Friday we are going to meet important person (name and position are still secret heheh).

He told us that our concept had been good, so we had not needed to add anything and it had been enough (Yeaaaay!! Hahaha *threw confetti*). We feel so glad and it’s like the burden is lifted. Can you imagine it? After 2 times being rejected, finally… it’s completed (hahah.. thank you, thank you, thank you very much, Mas Rhesa J). We were the happiest person that time. However, the meeting had to be ended. Our 45 minutes weekly meeting was done. We were heading to another place.

From BEI to PIM..

Five o’clock in the evening isn’t a good time to take a trip. Why?? Traffic jam!! (It is the one and only reason why I want to move from this city). And everything was getting worse because we had meeting on 6 pm!! aargh.. That cruel queue looked so long and crowd, cars and motorcycles were everywhere. Luckily, I wasn’t alone (hahah!!), Ester was with me. During the trip, we chat a little about last meeting (it successfully swallowed every curse inside my head). And without noticing it we were about to arrive.

Mas Handoko, yeah, we were going to meet him. He is not one of our patrons but he is my teammate acquaintance. My friends know him as a creative person and I think he is a kind man because they hadn’t really known each other but he was willing to share his knowledge. Thank You, Mas Handoko!!

It was a wonderful day, wasn’t it? I am so grateful that I can experience it. Everything we have today, because what we’ve done it as a team. We inspire and are inspired by each other. That’s what team is for. So glad having all of my teammates!! J

1 August 2012, we met another amazing person. He is an entrepreneur and an owner of Market+ Magazine. He is Dolly Lesmana (Yeah!! He is one of our patrons now!). We met him on his office in Kebayoran Baru.

He supported our plan and told us his insight. He showed us his company website and taught us about media. He gave idea about promo, video, and many more (I can’t write everything here). It was a great one-half hour meeting, but everything has its end, right? So, we ended the meeting by taking pictures!!

The meeting had ended but the schedule showed us something to do. Ratu Plaza was our next destination.

Ratu Plaza sell a lot of PC, so we thought that we could find some fact about pirated software. We were walking through the corridor, stopped and asked a few question. We did that for about one-half hour. After that we were heading to Microsoft Office.

We were going to meet Mas Rhesa. He is our mentor for this project and he wanted us to make a unique anti-piracy campaign. So, that day we came with our new ideas (after last Friday (July 27) our idea being rejected). We presented it, but somehow Mas Rhesa couldn’t find the uniqueness of our concept. He felt like it was something ordinary (oops, we disappointed him again). However, if I think about it now, yeah, maybe I agree with him.

We didn’t feel desperate or hopeless, but we thought about it. That day, we spent time to discuss ideas with Mas Rhesa. We said every idea inside our head. Some of them sounded pretty weird, but with other’s thought, it became incredible. That evening, we got the concept. We just needed to fix it a little.

All of us felt happy and satisfied. And before we closed the discussion, we made some pictures (but this time we had Mas Rhesa with us).

Ok, that's all from me. Good night, sweet dream, sleep well!! :D

This is story in 27th July 2012.

Friday, 2 o’clock in the afternoon, we planned to gather at Microsoft Office to present about our draft plan for the project which has given by Microsoft 2 weeks ago. On this occasion, we met Mas Rhesa for the first time. He is our tutor for this project. Then, we discussed brief project which we have made before. Besides our team and Mas Rhesa, Mas Sandro also attended on our discussion.
After we finished presenting our project plan, Mas Rhesa gave briefing about our draft. He said that our project plan was more likely marketing plan. He wanted us to focus only on anti piracy campaign. However, Mas Sandro and Mas Rhesa liked our idea which has a theme about creativity. Our plan was too deep about the marketing plan because miscommunication about the project which has given by Mas Rhesa. Althogh through this meeting, we had better understanding about what we will do. To finish this project, creativity was needed to make movement which can build big hype. This movement will be spread by social media. Think big, that was the suggestion from Mas Rhesa, he expected us to make something big for the anti piracy campaign.

After we finished, Mas Rhesa ask for leave because he had another meeting. The time was around 3 pm and we did a little evaluation about last discussion. After a few moments, Ester asked to leave because she had another thing to do. So, only Evita, Yos, Widy, and Stevani left, we continued our light conversation about good idea for this project. There were a few ideas, but it hasn’t fix yet and it is not very focus. After a few time discussing, we met Microsoft Team B. we chat and we took photo together.

Pleased to meet all of you, guys!!
Although we compete with B team, we keep sportive and the sense of family has to be maintained. :)

Time showed 5 pm, an hour away to breaking fast. Our team decided to break the fast together. Although Evita and Yos didn’t fast, they respect Widy and Stevani who were fasting. So, we ate together and after that, we were going back. Today was a wonderful day because we had new insight after discussing with our tutor and we can build the sense of family between our team and other team.

Hi!! It's been along time I didn't write. So, here is the story about our day on July 31, 2012. Happy reading!!

That day schedule was meeting with Mas Suhe. Yeah, we were very excited because he is the first patron we were going to meet. Ricky Suhendar is a marketing strategist and he works for Samsung. Before, he has experience working for Pocari Sweat. It is lucky for us to have patron like him.

We met him about 11.30 am at Samsung office. When we come we hadn’t any fix concept yet. So, we told every idea we had. Mas Suhe helped a lot. He made it into a good form. And the most surprising part is he could make it in a very short time (it proved his skill). He successfully made us amazed.

Yeah, that was the 30 minutes meeting. What’s next?

We continued it with discussion and brainstorming. It took a lot of time and it was not easy. Arranged the concept and tried to make it makes sense. It was a kind of fun things, where we enriched and were enriched. Thank you for all my teammate because of our hard work, the concept was almost done.

Here is all my teammates!!

Time reminded us to get some rest. It was 3.30 pm, some needed to pray and some needed lunch. So, we separated and purposed to gather on the library again.

We took lunch in Pacific Place on Thailand restaurant (I forget the name and the food is quite good). Everything felt ok, until we arrive on library. Yos had just realized that he lost his notes. We didn’t visit other place, so, the only possible place was only the restaurant.

On the way to get there, we met Mas Ferro. We chat a little and he gave us a little clue about the difference between legitimate and pirated Windows 8. It was lucky and thanks for Yos (because you lost your stuff, so we could meet him).

The discussion run a little but it wasn’t very effective. All of us were tired. That day meeting was closed by breaking fast together.

Food is always a good part!

Everyone enjoyed delicious food, relaxing, and having friends around them. Yeah, we spent our Tuesday evening doing this. We were hanging out on Izzi Pizza. And suddenly, everyone felt more energized. We didn’t forget to make some picture (the good one of course :P)..

Ok, that’s all for the story. See you again and wishing you every success. Bye!!

Finally, we met! We had lunch together. Unfortunately, Widy and Stevani couldn’t join us because they were not in a good health (It’s uncompleted for not having them thereL). Get well soon, Stev and Widy!

We had a lot of chat and funny stories (like circling inside busway corridor and many stories that I can’t mention one by one). However, we didn’t forget about our project too. So, we discussed a little about the idea. We brainstormed it and we got a good concept for Friday meeting with Mr. Rhesa. Hopefully, it can be accepted.

Ah! I almost forget that we made some pictures too! heheh.. here it is.. :D

It is a nice picture, isn't it? I hope moment like this can be happen more often. See you again.

Hi!! It’s been two days since the last post. Wondering about our progress? Here we go!!

Today, we have online meeting. Widy has made points that will be discussed. For the questioner, Ester has some ideas to be added. It make our questioner more details. However, we think that it is enough for now because we haven’t met our mentor yet. We also share our ideas about the campaign and we will discuss it again very soon.

And the coolest thing from today meeting is hang out! Yes! We are going to hang out again. It is more excited if we meet people face to face than via social media, right? We can say something more easily and directly. So, we choose Plaza Semanggi and we’ll meet around 12 pm. For sure, tomorrow will be great day! Have a good sleep!!

Saturday, 14 July 2012. The day that we will remembered forever. Our journey, as a team, has started from this day.

It was begun with an event held by British Council and Impact Factory, titled “Skills For Employability: LEARN WHAT YOU NEVER LEARN AT SCHOOL!” Aha. Maybe you feel like, hmmm, curious? So do us. Even just heard from its tagline just made our heart want to explode and keep pounding, because we are really excited!

Thanks to British Council, we never could imagine become part of 40 participants, selected from best universities in Indonesia. So let us tell you what this program aimed. Actually, it’s just simple, what else skills you need to be prepared after graduated from universities, so you’ll able facing hard reality in real work-life? Then, British Council (BC) has selected these fourty talented university students, no matter which education majors they have. By completing training and doing projects from four incubators companies, we are hoped to get those important learnings. (Be prepared and don’t get shock when you hear those BIG COMPANIES’ NAME! :D)

Okay. Let us continue this story!

The training itself held in Mandarin Oriental Hotel, famous with its “Fan” Icon and located near Bunderan HI. Of course, because it’s Saturday, the traffic is really smooth. After arrived and registered, we get to know each other participants, but maybe because we are strangers before, we can’t remembered other participant’s name easily! Urgh.

Then, Miki from BC introduced all of her team, including who are speakers of this whole day training. And yeah... The sessions begun!

You maybe know or have ever heard Rene Suhardono, or follow his twitter (@ReneCC)? Yeah, this famous career coach was there to share motivations for us. How grateful we are! And you should listen to his inspirational quotes: “YOUR JOB IS NOT YOUR CAREER. JUST WORKING BASED ON YOUR PASSION”. His sentence actually has crossing deep in participants’ heart, for sure.

And not just that! Even yourself need to look stunning and grooming when you have presentation or any sort of business things. Followed after Rene’ session, is a Beauty Class from The Body Shop. Such a fun session we had together, and it was good session especially for those who don’t understand about make-up before. (Sssh, guess all the girls feel so happy, rite?)

So, next two sessions was brought by Doni, another speaker from Impact Factory. He spoke about how important a collaborative work is and of course, we as a team who consisted from different majors are have own speciality skills. The point is, how we unite together? Through some fun games, we learned about it, and how to make a good future plan by visualizing it. How wild your dream is, no matter what, if you believe, it will be comes true.... That’s what we learned from these sessions.

Just don’t have enough? This, will be the most exciting part of the training.

WE, finally meet nine patrons! They are from different companies, and background, just like us. But they have more experiences (and of course already SUCCESSFUL!) from us. They aren’t feeling hesitate to share their achievements and some inspiring stories from their works. Good thing is, they are ready to be mentors of all teams to do those projects. Today, we have online meeting again. Ester and Stevani can’t join us. However, we continue our discussion about the questioner. We add details and replace some questions. The objective of this questioner is to get perception of the genuine Windows. We will summarize the result, so we can understand costumer’s reason of using the pirated software. All of us hope that the questioner is filled seriously and based on the real condition.

The final questioner was great and it is just a matter of time for publication. Today, Yos also succeed contacting patrons. His name is Suhe. He will help us for our project and Yos has told him about our team profiles and project information. Thank you Suhe for being our patron!! C:

We wanted to make an online meeting again. We were going to online around 3 pm, this afternoon. First, we tell Widy and Stevani what we have got. Yesterday, we have discussed about the questioner and how the concept of our social media. Yos explained it and he shared the question list. Ester was late because one of her family was passed away (sorry to hear that). We focused on the questioner first because this is our beginning step. We use the questioner to know the costumer’s perception about the genuine Windows.

We started with the first idea and generated it. One by one, the question arranged. Through this online meeting, we got 9 questions. The questioner was almost done and we just need to arrange it. The online meeting was finished on 6 pm. We planned the next online meeting will be held on tomorrow at 10 am. Thank you for all my teammates!!

On the second day, I attended training at Microsoft Indonesia Office on ISE Building. I was really excited about this opportunity because I could see the working environment on Microsoft. For an IT student like me, working at Microsoft is something awesome. And there, I met my teammate (Yos Steven) which is my acquaintance on mentor training.  The training was begun at 9.15. I was sitting with my team and we got 2 computers on our desk.

First, Mr. Sandro gave introduction about office 365. He explained clearly and he has a good sense of humor. He explained what cloud is and the features of office365. There are four packages on office365. They are Office Professional Plus, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Lync Online. I summarized the explanation and I got keyword from each packages. Office Professional Pro is the Microsoft Office complete version. Exchange Online is for email which has 25 MB capacity. SharePoint Online is a feature to share or post the project team. Lync Online is feature which allowed us to video conferencing and instant messaging. Lync Online is the coolest feature office365 has. Through this feature, we can attend meeting without present on the location. We can also use office365 offline. So, in case, I do not have internet connection, I still can work with my document.

After he finished, we had to wait for Mr. Ferro to get prepare for the trial. He explained how office365 transform the business and add a few detail about the features. After his explanation, we had some trial. We made account for office365 online and registered our name. We had one year free trial for our project.

Then, the training was closed by taking picture.. :D

All of participant of Game Changer Indonesia gave their best smile and everyone look very excited. Hopefully, it can be our sweet memory together. Cheers!!

Today, we have an online meeting via Skype. We planned a lot of things. Our leader leads us very well (Thank You, Widy!!) and also all of my teammates are very cooperative. Before we start, Widy had made a few points which have to be discussed. They were when and where we want to hang out, our availability, dividing group for Thursday (July 19, 2012), and role within the team.

My team wants to gather, so we can know each other better and we want to keep this relationship not only for the project but also after the project. After we discussed it, all of us agreed to have lunch on 19 July in Pacific Place.  The next agenda was our availability. In this session, we spoke honestly about our activity during holiday. We don’t want any misunderstanding happen if one of us can’t attend meeting or busy.

On July 19, we have to attend on Microsoft Office and British Council Office on the same time. So, we have to share task. We divided the task based on education background and experience. Those who will come to Microsoft are Ester, Yos, and Evita. Stevani and Widy will come to British Council.

The fourth agenda was defining individual role within team. Widy had divided role into Financial and Government, Documentation, Relationship Manager, and Leader. The leader has function as person in charge for Microsoft and British Council. The leader has to make sure everything is according to the plan and keep the plan’s flexibility.  Widy is the leader, so it is not a problem anymore.  Financial and Government has responsibility for the expanses report and other financial matters.  Ester understands about finance and her major is accounting, then The Financial and Government is the most suitable role for her. Next is Relationship Manager. Relationship Manager has function to maintain the relationship between our team and patrons. Since Yos has experience as Staff of Corporate Relation, he takes this role. The last role is Documentation. Documentation has responsibility on taking photo and video and writing daily journal. Evita is asked for this position and she agrees. Evita will be helped by Stevani too. They have to manage file and write daily journal. Related with documentation, Ester had brilliant idea to make blog. This blog has main function to publish our activity and progress about the project. It would be a very effective way to communicate the idea. We hope our collaboration will bring us victory.

Here is the day what we are waiting for!! Today, our team gathers on Pacific Place and our purpose is that we want to know more about each other. We meet around 12 p.m. Unfortunately, Stevani can’t join us because she has something to do. She will join on 3 p.m.  After all of us attend, we start looking for a nice place to have lunch and the choice fell to Urban Kitchen.

We talk about many different things. There are so many unique stories from majors and universities. Start from activities, experiences, until traditional stories. Joke and hoax are made this lunch feels more easy. They make fun and enrich my knowledge. And we also take some pictures (Thank you for Ester and Yos who bring camera. Because of them, this moment can be captured.). Then, we also have a little discussion about this blog. However, before all of the idea split out, time requires us to go to Microsoft.

There is a little change from the initial plan. Stevani who should come with Widy hasn’t come yet. She is still on her way because she is lost (do not ever ask direction to her heheh..). As replacement, Ester will accompany Widy to go to British Council. Evita and Yos go to Microsoft.

Mr. Sandro has waiting for us and he shared his experiences when he was working for Microsoft. Then, he starts the meeting by explaining about our project. Our project is related with Windows 8. Specifically, we have to convince the costumer to buy the genuine product. Our team will be mentored by Mr. Rhesa.

After the meeting is closed, we want to discuss a little about the project. However, it is canceled because Widy is not in a good health and Stevani has to go home. So, Ester, Yos, and Vita are going to home too. On the way, we are still talking about the project. Then, we decide going back to Pacific Place. We sit on @America. The place is very comfortable, quiet, and had layered security. We discuss about the social media that we will use and what the beginning step is. Although, they haven’t been perfect, these ideas can give a big contribution for our next discussion.

So, today we get many lessons and ideas. However, the most important (and above everything) is to keep our team solid. Honesty, understanding, and tolerance are needed. Idea, without friends who support it, isn’t mean much. If the idea grows and is completed continually, then it will make changes. Good luck for us!! :D
