Snippet
Hi!! It’s been a long time since the last post. There are a lot of things to share and of course about the result of first cut!

Surely, you are wondering about the result, right? Hahah.. Before I tell you who’s going to final, I want you to know that Microsoft B is a tough opponent. I think they are a perfectionist team and they were doing research very well. Their number is very strong. And for my team, we put a lot of creativity into our campaign, start from the slide until the supporting media. Generally, we are equal. It must be very difficult to decide.

However, there will be only one team go to the final. So, without wasting your time… the winner is… *drum roll* Microsoft Team A!!

Yeaah!! We made it to the final! *threw confetti* Hahah.. I was so happy. I never imagined that it would be happened. It was awesome and very grateful for this! All of us were very grateful. May be if we were on the same room, I’m sure we would rock the floor! Hahah.. Yipiie!!

We, Videos, and Photos

Although, we were won in first cut, it didn’t mean there was nothing to do anymore. We still had critics and inputs to be processed. It’s difficult for us because we have to change “the heart of our campaign”. We still had to think about the idea and how to make it interesting. In very close time to final, it made us panic. All of us were thinking harder, tried to reach something amazing. However, the ideas still sounded ordinary. Then my team decided to do what we can do first. So, we were going to make videos for the final.

September 8, 2012, we were gathered at McD Sarinah. The agenda were finding the concept of video, taking some scene, and collecting the idea. The concept of the videos arranged easily, but the idea for campaign is far than easy. So, we didn’t get a significant progress about the campaign.

The most enjoyable (and tiring) part would come very soon after the videos concept fixed. We started taking pictures and record a few scenes. We went to many spots such as, Djakarta Theatre, Ratu Plaza, and Grand Indonesia. This activity would be very interesting for those who want to be actor/actress. You could be a little narsis and capture yourself from every angle. However, I saw something different today that being an actor/actress is not very easy. Sometimes, you had to being someone else and deal with heat of the sun.

Our capturing activity has been so fun because there were always funny act and pictures there. Unfortunately, we couldn’t keep them all because we had a limited memory and battery. So, we had to end that session and we planned to continue it next day (September 9, 2012).

For Mentors and Patrons

We choose Starbucks FX as a convenience place to make our video for patrons and mentors. There were only a few things left to do and it didn’t take a long time. That day brought us back remembering our patrons and mentors, people who have contributed to our team. As I remember them, I feel that we were nothing without them. All their times and supports have brought us to final and I think a word ‘thank you’ will never enough to represent how grateful we are to have people like them.

However, as my last word, I'll keep to say thank you to Mas Resha, Mas Sandro, Mas Yustinus, Mbak Lisa, Mr. Bernard, Mr. Manish, Pak Dimin, Mas Suhe, Mas Dolly, and Mas Ario. Applause and praise for all of you!! J

Wednesday, September 5th 2012. The day that we will remember forever as a mark of our journey. We finally reached this stage: Final Presentation for our project!
After long process of making our Anti-Piracy campaign plan, here’s the next step, present it in front of judges from Microsoft: Manish and Bernard. They will decide which team will pass the First Cut and represent Microsoft at Grand Final of SfE Challenge. Gasp!
TWO HOURS LEFT BEFORE...
We planned to meet up at 11.00 AM, for preparing all needed in presentation. For the dresscode, Batik is the choice because it’s related with our campaign main idea, Value of Creativity.
One by one, we finally gathered at Coffee Tofee in IDX. Tried to calm ourself, yeah this is the first time we meet Manish and Bernard, directors of Microsoft! Such a big honor to get this opportunity, yet we tried to prepare our best to impress them.
You must look at each of our face! Widy, the team leader, still calm but we know he tried to make the rest feel relaxed. Evita, busy with fixed the presentation slides. Yos and Ester were practicing the presentation together. Stevani, made sure that our website sample was worked well. Everyone was excited but terrified at same time!
So, ready guys? Microsoft-A team will rock the game!
TIK TOK TIK TOK... SHOWTIME!
And the show begins. Came into Microsoft office at 18th floor, and such a coincidence! Microsoft-B team, our friend and opponent arrived at same time with us, and wearing Batik, same dresscode but of course we didn’t plan it before hohoho J J
Mas Sandro then met us and accompanied to the Azzure meeting room. Actually, this is first time we look at whole inside of Microsoft office, which only employees can enter the room. Happy! Like we are truly working at Microsoft, wohooo!
After waited for some minutes in Azzure, the judges finally arrived. Manish and Bernard greet us and we can see how inspiring they are, just look at their face. They give team B first turn to present their project. It’s about getting awareness for Office 365, newest software from Microsoft.
WOW. If only you can see them in the room, you will agree about how marvelous their presentation is. They prepare everything, including complete research related. Compared to us, we actually nothing, that’s what we think during presentation. How great their presentation skill and especially when delivering their ideas in English. Followed by Q&A session with judges, which means near the time for our turn!

Finally, it’s ours! Pray and pray and confidence with ourself, that’s advice from all of our mentors and patrons. Widy, Ester, Yos, Evita, Stevani , one by one got turn alternately in presenting as we planned together before.
We were grateful that everything has run smoothly. Bernard and Manish give us some questions and feedbacks for our Anti-Piracy campaign. Yeah, we realized that we still need improvement and some weakness left here and there at our ideas. But still, we feel such lucky people because we got a chance to present our ideas in front of them, no matter what, we all still university students, right? You must get the point, hahaha.

Unfortunately, Bernard and Manish must left first because they have appointments waiting. Of course, we have photo session together with them and team-B too! We sure have fun together.

After all finished, we must waiting for tomorrow about the announcement from British Council. Who’s the winner and got a chance to the Grand Final.
WHAT WE LEARN FROM TODAY?
Winning is other thing, but we glad we give out all we have. Leave out all the rest to God, at least we have tried our best. That’s the important lesson.
Met with awesome people from Microsoft, Mas Sandro, Mas Resha (our mentor), people from Anti-Piracy division that always supported us (Mas Yustinus, Mbak Lisa, Pak Sudimin), sharing with them and inspired with their way of thinking and solving problem. Also, all patrons (Mas Suhe, Mas Dolly, Mas Ario). We learn A LOT from these great people. How humble they are and willingly to teach us everything even they are busy with each business. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
Also, awesome friends from Microsoft-B team! Such a pleasure to meet all of you guys! Well, game is another thing but important one is, our relationship we’ve got. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
These valuable lessons and moments, we surely remember forever.
Thanks, MICROSOFT INDONESIA!

That day, we were going to meet Mas Yustinus and Mbak Lisa. First, the schedule hadn’t fixed, but then they had time on 4.30 pm.

We came with a few concepts for the presentation. We did some practice and then Mbak Lisa and Mas Yustinus gave suggestion and critic. They had shared many tips and how to make the presentation more attractive. I found that some of the tips are difficult to me. In a short time period like this, I just can only make it as good as I can. Hopefully, we can reach our maximal performance.

Moreover, Mas Yustinus shared his experience when he had to present for the first time and told us how he deal with it. You know, the stories was so funny, I laughed many times because of it. It made the meeting not very serious but still meaningful. That’s what I like there. All of this experience makes me so grateful. I learn a lot.

This meeting was done around 7 pm. It’s been late for me. So, we had to hurry and said ‘bye-bye’ with each other.

As my last word, thank you, thank you very much for British Council and Microsoft!!

September 2, 2012

Sunday Morning. It is a perfect day to do some exercise or maybe get prepare to go somewhere interesting, hang out with friends, gather with your family, or just stay on your bed all the day. Or if you are a kind of diligent person (or the lazy one), you can do some of your assignment. Essentially, it is out of your routine. Just enjoy your day and get refreshed!! :p

And how do we spend our weekend?

We choose to hang out. This time FX becomes our destination. The traffic is smooth. I get there half hour faster than my prediction. So, I arrive very early and luckily my friends come not very long from me. Then, we choose Starbucks and start enjoying a cup of coffee. It is a good choice to make you stay awake and work as well.

We analyze and try to make some improvement after our meeting with Pak Sudimin. We collaborate and try to solve every weakness we have.

The time is running so fast that we don’t realize we’ve been sitting there for about 4 hours. It’s time to have our lately lunch. However, it doesn’t mean our meeting is finish. We continue a little after lunch, before we go home.

I hope after all the hard work we did, we can win this competition. But more importantly, we learn a lot from this competition. That’s what we are looking for because we can’t buy the experience, right? Ok, that’s all from me. See you and good luck!! J

Hi!! Maybe it’s been a long time you don’t hear any update from us. Actually, there are so many things we have to do. So, I don’t have enough time to post this. I’m very sorry about the delay and I hope you enjoy our new update. Ok, now let’s start with August 30, 2012.

That was Thursday evening. We gathered on Microsoft Indonesia Office, our lovely place to meet amazing people. I was thinking that day would be our usual weekly meeting but my opinion was wrong as I heard what Mas Yustinus (he and Mbak Lisa are our mentor since Mas Resha moved) asked something to the receptionist. We were going to present in front of The Director of Genuine Software Initiative, Sudimin Mina.

Surprised and nervous. Yeah, we were going to present without any preparation. However, we were happy that finally we could meet him. He is very busy so it’s an honor for us that he gave his valuable time with us. Surely, we don’t want to disappoint him.

The meeting was begun. And based on what I see, he was challenging us (the kind of person that I never thinking before). He asked all of us to present in English. That was good idea for our preparation (it shows us his awareness). However, I found that it’s a little difficult to stay calm. What inside my head are he has a great position and I can’t speak English very fluently. I was afraid that I disappoint him.

He appreciated what we’ve been presented and he motivated us. Moreover, he gave his tips how to present in English and dared us to present creatively. After about 3 hours of meeting, we note a few points that we have to think again. And we didn’t forget also for taking pictures.

That day I got a lot of lesson. There are still a lot of amazing people out there. So, what all of us have to do are keep learning and never give up.

Ok. Deeply thanking for Pak Dimin and wishing you every success.

Widyantoko Utomo

My name is Widyantoko Utomo, I’m a student in BINUS University, Jakarta, majoring in Industrial Engineering and Management Study. I’m on my 6th semester when I started my experience in British Council Skill For Employability Challenge. I would say that I’m lucky to be able to experience this unique program created by British Council in collaboration with Impact Factory that offers great experience and opportunity for us to understand how it’s like to be in an actual environment of a workingplace that we might possibly going to face as we graduate from university.

The participant of this program are actually limited to 40 chosen people divided in 8 groups that will get the chance to meet and being mentored by professional practitioners from across sectors to work on a project given by 5 well-known companies in Indonesia.

As each of group are assigned to a different company and working on different project, I’m sure that the experience discovered will be vary and unique. I’m personally assigned to work with Microsoft as my team’s incubator company and chosen to lead my team to handle the issue of Anti-Piracy Campaign. During the journey of us figuring out the campaign idea we have learned about a lot of things, we learn about how to properly do brainstorming, we learn about how to create a marketing campaign, how to initiate a movement, learn about the field facts of piracy act in Indonesia, and a lot of other things. We also met and connected to new people, from the people working and helping us in the company we are being placed, expertise and practitioners that are willing to assist us during our challenge assignment here, also practitioners we met outside this program as well. Those experience has helped us gained insight and ideas to learn about problem solving, and provide a solution to our environment.

There are things that are happened according to how we expect it would be and there are things that happen contrary to that and it teach us to be tougher in facing problems and improve our problem solving skill. It has been a great journey this whole project was, it has equipped us to be more prepared in facing the real working environment and for that I am really thanking the British Council and Impact Factory and to all patrons mas Ricky Suhendar, mas Dolly Lesmana, mas Ario Pratomo, Rene Suhardono, mbak Miki Kitthika, and to people that are really kind to help us mas Handoko Hendroyono from Brand Gardener, mas Resha Adi Pradipta and mas Ridzky Novasandro from Microsoft Indonesia, and mas Ardantya Syahreza for the insights and assistance, deeply appreciate and thanking you all great peoplethat are involved in all the learning my team and I got during this assignment.

August 27, 2012

Hi!! What’s up? It is a good day, right? The traffic is still smooth and I think it is a great time to take a trip. I’m wondering where you would go now. Hmm.. School, office, or maybe some people are still enjoying their free day, a mall or museum? Yeah, wherever you go, just grateful for the traffic because it happens rarely. It’s a perfect time to enjoy Jekardah, isn’t it?

How about us?

Yup! We don’t want to miss this lucky day too. We are going to take a trip to… our meeting point (sounds boring. But believes me, we have a lot of fun). We arranged meeting at 2 pm on BEI library.

However it’s not a very serious meeting. We start to share stories, some full information, some funny, some silly, and some inspirable. I really enjoy my time with my team. Our progress has been going fast. Hmm.. It’s like the traffic today! Smooth!! Sometimes we have red light that we have to stop and think. Then it turns into yellow, the solution is getting showed up. And ended with green light, the problem is solved. We don’t have any traffic jam which means we don’t have any problem without solution. Everything flows fluently. I’m very proud being a part of my team. We are productive but relaxed, competitive but fair, discipline but caring. Bravo Microsoft A team!!

And.. this is the end of our great day. Wishing you every success and have a nice day!
